Biography: Professor Gary Marchant joined the faculty of Arizona State University College of Law in the fall of 1999. Prior to that he was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis, where he practiced in the areas of environmental, administrative and products liability law for ten years. He received his J.D. magna cum laude in 1990 from Harvard Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and editor of the Harvard Environmental Law Review. He also received a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of British Columbia in 1986, and a Masters of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in1990. Professor Marchant teaches Environmental Law, Law, Science & Technology, Genetics and the Law, and Environmental Justice. His current research interests include the use of genetic information in environmental regulation and toxic torts, the precautionary principle, and legal issues relating to genetically modified foods.
